Book better flights with Milewise

Milewise

Milewise helps travelers book the best flights at the best value. It gathers your frequent flier data and suggests which flights have the best price at cash value, something that is otherwise quite difficult to figure out.

I worked with New York based Milewise team from San Francisco over the hone and email. We did quick and dirty rework to help their customers the best flights possible.

Shaping up the interface

While on a tight deadline of less than a week and a product unlaunched, we worked with the existing assets and framework to improve the interface and flow. I reviewed the existing notes from the team and user research to determine, or at least predict, what was likely confusing.

First I did an indepth review and critque that was shared with the team with suggested simple UI tweaks and copy changes that could clarify and better explain parts of the system. In the new UIshown above, I suggested a sort feature (schedule, value, wiseprice etc).

The Wiseprice is the cash value of purchasing a flight with miles. The Wiseprice benefit is to give more transparency to the booking process and help customers know exactly how much they're paying for a flight and what real value they are getting.

I suggested using language that says "Like paying $304" whereas before it only said $304 in addition to the text below that shows how much value the miles earned are, as well.

Subsequently I moved the airline logos from the middle of the table to the left that made it much easier to skim the flights and give visual relief from the smiley faces.

Finally, the copy and colors were revised in the How to Pay column to make it more clear how to pay with cash or with points.
